Nestled in the heart of Amish Country, Ferngully Creek may feel like it’s deep in the woods, yet it’s only minutes from restaurants, golf courses, coffee bars, wineries and shopping.
Built from Michigan white cedar logs, the cabins combine a rustic setting with the luxury visitors seek for a romantic and relaxing getaway. Quality towels and linens, plush robes, and a Jacuzzi for two are only a few of the many amenities at Ferngully Creek. Guests will enjoy the satellite with surround sound, a plush king-size bed, a stone,gas-log fireplace that reaches to the ceiling, a fully furnished kitchen and an atmosphere that makes them reluctant to leave.
Guests frequently note in the guestbook the variety of animals that visited during their stay. A salt lick keeps the deer coming by and feeders keep the birds and squirrels happy. Wild turkeys are popular guests as well as the occasional raccoon. “Reading the guest book keeps us enthused,” Kathysaid. “We wanted to provide a place for people to relax, away from the stresses of life, and it seems to be working!”
Owners Paul and Kathy Marner have always enjoyed entertaining guests at their home so it seemed a logical choice to open Ferngully Creek. Paul is a building contractor and the owner of Berlin Siding and Construction. After having the logs set in place by a local log home builder, he completed the cabins himself. The tile work, cabinetry, flooring, screened-in porches and decks make it easy to see he enjoys his craft. Two cabins were completed when several large cherry trees fell during the ice storm of 2004. Paul salvaged the trees, using them for most of the furniture in the third cabin, which was added the following year.
For guests who prefer to stay in during their visit in the winter months, Kathy offers a complimentary filet mignon dinner for two. Two steaks ready for the grill, two potatoes ready for the oven, salad fixings and Amish-made bread and dessert will be waiting for those who request it when they make their reservation. If grilling isn’t what a guest wants, they may choose a basket of locally made wine, cheeses and chocolates instead. Both specials, available from January through March, are offered for any minimum two-night stay, and must be requested at the time the reservation is made.
