Amish Style Sorghum Cookies

Ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 c. shortening
  2. 2 c. brown sugar
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup sorghum (or molasses)
  5. 4 1/2 c. white flour
  6. 4 tsp. baking soda
  7. 2 tsp. cinnamon
  8. 2 tsp. ground ginger
  9. 1 tsp. ground cloves
  10. 1 tsp. salt
  11. white sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
  1. Cream shortening and brown sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add eggs and sorghum and mix well.
  3. Add all the rest of the ingredients and mix until incorporated into dough.
  4. Chill dough for several hours.
  5. Shape into 1" balls.
  6. Roll each ball in white sugar.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 min.
Yields 8-10 dozen
