Berlin is the oldest existing village in Holmes County—formed in 1816. Times have changed but Berlin continues to be an activity hub. With attractions, shopping, restaurants and lodging establishments, Berlin can be called the heart of Amish Country.

The Berlin Main Street Merchants are a group of local merchants who believe unity is the best way to promote Berlin to visitors and guests. This group of hard-working shop owners and employees gather frequently to find fresh innovative ideas to keep Berlin a favorite destination.
Downtown merchants host a variety of events showcasing the Main Street businesses. From the very early morning Pajama Party, that has thousands of early birds flocking to Berlin in January, to the traditional Christmas parade with a Biblical theme, Berlin Main Street Merchants focus on unique events that bring back the true meaning of yesteryear while staying current with the trends of today.
Founded in 1816, the village of Berlin is the oldest remaining village in Holmes County. Ironically, its German founder chose the site because it could be defended against Indian attacks. Of course, today there is no longer a threat to Berlin, but the town in the heart of Amish Country and the thought of Native Americans attacking the establishment is quite interesting.
In addition to many Main Street businesses, some of the members of the group have establishments outside the downtown area. However, if it’s a great event and merchants are pulling together to make it great, you can bet it’s a Berlin Main Street Merchant family-friendly event.
