When it comes to supplying the area with all things quilt related, Lone Star Quilt Shop lives up to its name. “We’re the only place in the area to offer treadle sergers,” said Ada Miller, owner of the shop.
Her daughter Amy works at the store with her. “We were excited to convert a standard treadle machine into a serger and be the first store to introduce it to sewers who don’t work with electricity,” Miller said.
Lone Star Quilt Shop also sells Juki and Elna electric machines, both available in a wide range of prices to fit any budget. “We cater to everyone from the beginner to the expert quilter,” Miller said. “We even offer a long-arm sewing machine that can sew through eight to 10 layers of denim.”
Miller explained that some people love the idea of quilting but don’t quite know where to start. Or they just don’t have the time to complete the top piece. That’s where Lone Star really shines.
“We offer a big variety of quilt tops, about 20-25 to choose from in different designs and colors,” she said. “We can even help people pick out the fabric they love so the finished design and shading are a perfect reflection of their taste, then help them piece it or sew the top for them. Whatever the quilting need, we’re here to help.”
Miller said the store also offers a generous assortment of finished quilts, about 70-100 at any given time. “All of the finished quilts we offer are handmade and come in different designs, colors and sizes,” she said. “We choose the fabric combinations. Then local sewers take the pieces home and put them together. All of the quilts we sell are quilted by hand. It’s a very special process that results in heirloom-quality quilts.”
Lone Star Quilt Shop boasts a huge fabric inventory — nearly 3,500 bolts to choose from —including Ohio State Buckeye fabric as well as pre-printed topper designs.
“We’re one of the largest quilt shops in the area,” Miller said, noting the expansion to the store last year more than doubled its size.
The building design is a delightful throwback to the old west with a squared-off top on the facade that’s straight out of Texas.
If your desire to create runs along simpler lines, Miller and her team have smaller projects available. The store also sells a nice selection of crafts and purses.
“Our crafts include things like table runners to sew with the colors already selected for you and complete instructions,” she said. “We’re completely stocked with sewing notions and books on sewing and quilting. Whether you are an expert sewer or just have a love of fine quilting, this is the place to visit during your travels to Amish Country.”
